Wellesley College announces Joseph Chirico as
the Diving coach, Kendall Cox as Assistant Lacrosse coach, Christopher Spencer
as Assistant Fencing coach and Elizabeth Youngblood as Assistant Swimming coach.

Louise O’Neal, Director of Athletics at Wellesley College announced four additions to the coaching
staff at Wellesley College. Joseph Chirico has been
named Diving coach, Kendall Cox as Assistant Lacrosse coach, Christopher
Spencer as Assistant Fencing coach and Elizabeth Youngblood as Assistant
Swimming coach beginning Fall 2005
Joseph Chirico comes to Wellesley as a Boston area diving coach since 1979. Chirico served as the Boston College Diving Coach from
1994-2000 where he had NCAA Division I Zone A
Qualifiers from 1995-2000. Prior to BC, he was the Diving Coach for Northeastern University from 1986-1994. NU captured the 1991 and
1993 North Atlantic Conference Championship and ECAC Diving Championship during
his tenure. Chirico was named NCAA Zone A Diving
Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1991 and New England (NEWISDA) Diving Coach on
the Year from 1989-1991 and 1993.
Kendall Cox is a 2005 graduate from Bowdoin College with an A.B. in Psychology and a minor in
Education. Cox was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-New England and
All-NESCAC selection for Lacrosse. She was also named a 2004 Academic
All-America recipient. She served on the NESCAC Student Advisory Committee for
Athletics at Bowdoin where she met with the Athletic
Director to serve as the voice of the student-athletes. Cox was also
responsible for representing Bowdoin athletics in
bi-yearly meetings comprised off all eleven NESCAC colleges.
Christopher Spencer comes to Wellesley from the Northampton Fencing Center where he has served as the Junior Team
Head Coach since 2003. Spencer also served as the Smith College Fencing coach
from 2003-2004 and a Boston Fencing Club Instructor from 1996-1998. A 2002
graduate from Brandeis University, Spencer holds a Bachelor of Arts in
Politics and a minor in Anthropology. He was a 1993 New England Division Foil
Champion and an ECAC and IFA Division I finalist from 1993-1994. Spencer was
also a 1992 and 1994 NCAA Regional qualifier and a 1993 USFA National
Championship finalist.
Elizabeth Youngblood is a 2005 graduate from Mount Holyoke College where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in
International Relations and a minor in Biology. Youngblood was a senior captain
and set school records in six events from 2001-2005. She also received the 2005
Anne C. Cummings Award which recognizes excellence in athletic performance at Mt. Holyoke. Youngblood was also given recognition of
athletic achievement in the first year at college by being the recipient of the
2002 Noll Newcomer Award.
