Wellesley Crew Races at Malden River Spirit Regatta
Medford, Mass. – The Wellesley College crew team raced at the Malden Spirit Regatta on Saturday morning against boats from Tufts, Smith and Simmons.
Wellesley's first varsity boat picked up a win over conference - rival Smith College. The Blue defeated the Pioneers by three seconds, 7:04.96 to 7:07.10. The first varsity boat also dropped a close race to Simmons.
The second varsity boat also defeated Smith but fell to Tufts. Wellesley finished the Smith race in 7:06.23 while the Pioneers came in at 7:07.88.
In third varsity action,
Wellesley College defeated Tufts, 7:18.28 to 7:20.11.
The Blue Crew's first novice boat also faired well on the day, picking up a win over Smith. Wellesley finished the race in 7:21.33 to Smith's 7:32.32.
The Wellesley 2 - N raced twice on the day, falling to Tufts and Smith. In the Smith race, the Blue had an open water lead before they caught a crab with 700 - meters to go.
The Blue will return to the water on Saturday, May 3rd to compete in the New England Championships at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
