Wellesley College Takes Second at Seven Sisters Championships
WELLESLEY, Mass. – Smith College sophomore Anna Cressotti won the 2007 Cross Country Championship held on Saturday morning at Wellesley College. Cressotti covered the 5,000-meter lake course in a time of 18:47 to help pace her team’s third place finish behind Mount Holyoke who took the team title and host Wellesley College who finished second.
Taking second place overall, Cressotti’s teammate Nora Young finished the course in a time of 18:54. Vassar’s Laura Coogan took third place in 19:11 while Mount Holyoke’s Catherine Riffin (19:13) and Wellesley’s Kerry Shanley (19:16) rounded out the top five finishers.
Overall, Mount Holyoke took the team title with four top-ten finishes and a total of 52 points, besting second place finisher Wellesley College by seven points. Smith took third place and was followed in order by Swarthmore, Vassar and Bryn Mawr.
The win was the first Seven Sisters Cross Country title for Mount Holyoke in seven years and the college’s third total title. Contested since 1982, Wellesley College and Smith College have each won seven titles while Haverford College has four wins.
