Wellesley Cross Country Wins Wellesley Invitational;
Shanley Takes Individual Honors on Senior Day
WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College’s Kerry Shanley (Marshfield, MA) was the top individual finisher in a field of 42 runners as the Blue won the 2007 Wellesley Invitational with a perfect score of 15 points. Shanley, who finished in 19:30, led a strong field of Wellesley runners who took nine out of the top 10 finishes on the 5,000-meter lake course.
A string of Wellesley finishers crossed after Shanley. Katie Gosling (Palo Alto, CA) took second in 20:03 while Clare Egan (Cape Elizabeth, ME) took third place in 20:07. Jessica Weng (Paramus, N.J.) finished fourth in a time of 20:12 while Hannah Sholder (Pittsburgh, PA) placed fifth in 20:16. Katrina Utz (Middletown, RI) ran the course in 20:22 for sixth place while fellow senior Anya Ravitz (Hopkinton, MA) was a second behind to take seventh place. Rounding out top-ten finishes for Wellesley were Ashley Muller (Downers Grove, IL) who took eighth place in 20:30 and Elizabeth Hubertz (Fort Wayne, IN) who finished 10th in 20:44.
Natalie Wilson was the top non-Wellesley finisher taking ninth place for NYU in a time of 20:39. She paced her team to a third place finish behind Wellesley (15 points) and just one second behind Connecticut College (63 points) who took third. Saint Joseph College took fourth with 117 points.
After the race, Wellesley honored the six senior members of the team. Since they joined the team in 2004, this year’s seniors have won two Seven Sisters championships (2004, 2005) and one NEWMAC title (2005). On their home course, the Blue have won the last four Wellesley Invitational meets.

Grace Logan is an economics major from Miami, Florida.
Anya Ravitz is an architecture and English major from Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
Kerry Shanley is a biology major from Marshfield, Massachusetts.
Katrina Utz is a biology major from Middletown, Rhode Island.
Wellesley will next compete in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Championships that will be held at Smith College on Saturday, October 27 at 11:00 am.
