Wellesley College Cross Country Takes 17th at NCAA Regional
Results
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Wellesley College cross country team completed the 2008 season with a 17th place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Regional hosted by Williams College. Wellesley was led by seniors Amy Damon (Livermore, ME), Jessica Weng (Paramus, NJ) and Hannah Sholder (Pittsburgh, PA).
The Blue finished with 530 points, good for 17th out of 49 scoring teams. Middlebury took top honors with 57 points while Williams (82) and MIT (161) followed.
Individually, Damon was Wellesley's top finisher on the 6K course, taking 97th in a time of 25:21. Weng, Sholder and first-year Cailey Stevens (Kodiak, AK) followed Damon, finishing in a tight pack for the Blue. Weng took 101st in 25:27.3 while Sholder (25:33.2) and Stevens (25:33.2) finished 104th and 105th in the field of 330 runners.
Rounding out the scoring for Wellesley, junior Katie Gosling (Palo Alto, CA) took 123rd place in a time of 25:54.5. Also finishing for the Blue, Ashley Muller (Downers Grove, IL) took 125th in 26:00.2 while senior Kate Watson (Olympia, WA) placed 225th in 28:23.9.
The time spread between Wellesley's first through fifth runners was a mere 33.5 seconds, second-best for a Wellesley team at Regionals behind only the 1994 team (18 second spread).
Wellesley cross country finished the 2008 season with a final win-loss record of 124-81.
