Wellesley Cross Country Takes Fourth at Seven Sisters

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Wellesley College cross country team took fourth place at the 27th annual Seven Sisters Cross Country Championship held at Smith College. Wellesley was paced by top-10, All-Seven Sisters finishers Amy Damon (Livermore, ME) and Jessica Weng (Paramus, NJ).
Damon placed ninth overall in a field of 72 runners with a time of 20:09.30 on the 5K course. Weng placed 10th in a time of 20:10.20. Both Wellesley runners earned a spot on their first Seven Sisters All-Championship team.
Wellesley senior Hannah Sholder (Pittsburgh, PA) took 14th place overall with a time of 20:32.70 while Katie Gosling (Palo Alto, CA) finished 21st in 20:56.80. Other Wellesley scorers were Katie Watson (Olympia, WA) who finished in 21:20.60 (29th), Ashley Muller (Downers Grove, IL) who ran a 21:23.90 (30th) and Libby Freeman (Piedmont, CA) who ran 22:02.40 (38th).
Swarthmore took home the team title, amassing 35 points to win their second championship since 1989. Host Smith took second with 65 points followed by Vassar (73), Wellesley (78), Bryn Mawr (144) and Mount Holyoke with 145.
Smith Senior Nora Youngs raced to her second individual title completing the 5K course today in 19:19.00. She won her first championship as a first year, finished eighth as a sophomore and second last year.
Wellesley cross country is next in action hosting the 2008 Wellesley Invitational on Saturday, September 25th at 11:00am.
