Wellesley College Cross Country Takes 11th at UMass Dartmouth Invitational

DARTMOUTH, Mass. –  The Wellesley College cross country team ran to an 11th place finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday.  The Blue fared well against NEWMC competition, finishing behind MIT (1st) and Springfield (5th) but beating out Wheaton (14th), Mount Holyoke (17th), WPI (18th), Coast Guard (20th), Clark (31st) and Babson (33rd).  There were 41 total teams competing.

Amy Damon (Livermore, Maine) was Wellesley's top finisher in the 5000-meter race, taking 49th place out of 310 runners in a time of 19:32. Co-captain Katie Watson (Olympia, WA) was next for the Blue finishing in 19:40 (62nd), leading a pack of Wellesley runners across the finish line, which included co-captain Hannah Sholder (Pittsburgh, PA) in 65th place with a 19:44 and, Katie Gosling (Palo Alto, CA) in 68th at 19:46.

Each of Wellesley's top four runners achieved lifetime bests at the 5,000-meter distance.

Other varsity finishers for Wellesley were Jessica Weng (Paramus, NJ) in 20:02 (95th), Katherine Mason (College Station, TX) who finished 103rd (20:21) and Ashley Muller (Downers Grove, IL) who placed 105th (20:24).

In the sub-varsity race, Wellesley placed 7th out of 18 teams, led by first years Mia Howard (24th out of 199 finishers, 20:25) and Cailey Stevens (26th, 20:29).

Wellesley cross country will next race at the Purple Valley Classic at Williams College on Saturday, September 27th at 12:45pm.
