Wellesley College Cross Country Wins 2009 Seven Sisters Championship;
Blue Notch Five All-Seven Sisters Honors

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College cross country team grabbed first place at the 28th annual Seven Sisters Championship today at Mount Holyoke College. Five runners finished in the top ten overall for the Blue, who captured their championship best eighth team title.
Wellesley tallied 33 points en route to their first championship since the 2005 season. The Blue were followed by Vassar College (54), Swarthmore College (56), Smith College (90), Bryn Mawr College (154) and Mount Holyoke (157).
Sophomore Johanna Spangler (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) of Vassar raced to the individual title, completing the 5,000 meter course in 18:44.00. She was followed by Smith senior Christine Dzialo (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) (18:56) and Wellesley first year Randelle Boots (Seekonk, Mass./Providence Country Day) (18:57), who earned second and third place finishes, respectively.
After Boots, Wellesley had four other All-Seven Sisters performances. First-year Claire Cummings (Norway, ME) finished fifth overall in a time of 19:14 while her classmates Cristina Lucas (Glendale, CA) and Camille Basurto (Wilton, CT) took seventh and eighth with times of 19:25 and 19:37. Rounding out the top ten, Wellesley senior Clare Egan (Stuart, FL) finished in a time of 19:45.
Wellesley will return to action next Saturday, hosting the 2009 Wellesley Invitational.
