Randelle Boots Highlights Track Performance by Wellesley Athletes


GORHAM, Maine -- Several Wellesley College athletes competed at the New England Division III Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship at the University of Southern Maine last Saturday. Overall, Wellesley tied NEWMAC rival Wheaton College with a 19th place finish.

First year Randelle Boots ran Wellesley’s first sub-five minute mile, recording a 4:57.73 finish. Boots currently ranks sixth on the NCAA Division III performance list and will likely qualify for the NCAA National Championship at DePauw University  in Greencastle, Indiana on March 12th and 13th.

In the 400-meters, sophomore Leah Clement notched a ninth place finish, solidifying a new Wellesley record with a time of 60.29.

Running the 800-meters, first year Cristina Lucas finished 13th with an indoor personal best time of 2:24.76.

Rounding out the action, Leah Clement, Cristina Lucas, Molly Shanley, and Randelle Boots competed in the 4 x 800-meter relay event. The team landed a new Wellesley indoor record, finishing ninth with a time of 9:47.68 and qualifying for the ECAC Division III Championship.
