Wellesley's Randelle Boots Named NEWMAC Cross Country Runner of the Week

BABSON PARK, Mass. –  Wellesley College sophomore Randelle Boots (Seekonk, MA) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference(NEWMAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for the period ending September 19, 2010.

Boots led Wellesley to a first place team finish at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday. The sophomore posted a career-best time of 17:53, finishing second overall in a field of 290 finishers. Boots' time was the third fastest 5K in Wellesley cross country history, and her finish anchored the Blue to the team title, ahead of eight NEWMAC schools.

Wellesley's top-five total time of 1:31:44 by Boots, Cristina Lucas (Glendale, CA), Molly Shanley (Marshfield, MA), Camille Basurto (Wilton, CT), and Leah Clement (East Lyme, CT) is the best in program history for a 5K course, as they averaged 18:20.8 in the race.  The previous Wellesley record was nearly 40-seconds slower per runner, as King, Kibler, Franz, Liu and Gaviser combined for an overall 1:35:03 with a 19:00.6 average in 1994.

The Blue return to action next Saturday at the Williams Purple Valley Classic at 12:00pm.
