Wellesley College Cross Country Wins Roger Williams Invitational

Results

BRISTOL, R.I. –  The Wellesley College cross country team opened the 2010 season with a bang, taking first place at the seven team Roger Williams Invitational.  The Blue took five out of the top six spots while sweeping the first four finishes in the 5K race.

Wellesley sophomores Randelle Boots (Seekonk, MA) and Camille Basurto (Wilton, CT) were neck-in-neck at the finish, each posting a time of 19:18.  However, Boots edged Basurto to take top individual honors in the field of 87 runners. 

Junior Leah Clement (East Lyme, CT) took third place in 19:28, while sophomore Cristina Lucas (Glendale, CA) finished fourth in 19:34.  Rounding out the top ten finishes, junior Molly Shanley (Marshfield, MA) recorded a time of 19:38 to finish sixth overall.

The Blue also had a trio of first-years post strong starts to their collegiate careers.  Jane Lodwick (Chesterland, OH) took 12th place in 20:55, Margaret Wehner (San Francisco, CA) took 13th in 20:56 and Adiba Manning (Roxbury Crossing, MA) placed 16th in 21:05.

The Blue are back in action on at Saturday’s UMass Dartmouth Invitational beginning at 12:00pm.
