Wellesley Fencing Goes 3-4 in Northeast Conference Action


PROVIDENCE. R.I.- The Wellesley College fencing team competed at the first Northeast Fencing Conference Meet of the season this weekend.  Wellesley went 3-4, picking up wins against the Univeristy of New Hampshire, the University of Massachusetts, and Boston University. 

Against UMass, the Blue won the Epee competition 9-0 and the Sabre competition 6-3.  Wellesley fell 4-5 in Foil, but picked up an overall 19-8 bout victory.

In a 16-11 victory over UNH, Wellesley won Foil 6-3 and Epee 8-1, before falling in Sabre 2-7.

Against BU, the Blue picked up a 21-6 bout victory.  Wellesley won Foil 5-4, Epee 8-1, and Sabre 8-1.

In Foil, Hannah Braaten (Concord, MA) went 18-3 on the day to lead the Blue.  Samantha Kim (Westlake Village, CA) picked up six Foil wins as well.  In Epee, Wellesley was led by Ashley Paquin (Cumberland, RI) and Emily Johnson (Pittstown, NJ) who went 16-5 and 12-6, respectively.  Anne Benjamin (Fairfield, CT) also picked up eight wins in Epee.  In Sabre competition, Elizabeth Rowen (Santa Cruz, CA) led Wellesley with 9 wins, while Crystal Aiken (Eden, NC) recorded 8 wins.   

Wellesley fencing will return to action on January 27, 2010 when they host Brandeis University at Home at 7:00 pm.
