Wellesley Field Hockey Falls in #3 Bowdoin

Box Score

WELLESLEY, MA – Playing the third-ranked team in the country proved to be too much for Wellesley College as the Blue fell to Bowdoin College 4-0 in the season-opener for both teams.

Wellesley played tight defense against the nationally-ranked Polar Bears until the 28th-minute when Bowdoin’s Kristen Veiga scored off of a pass from Kate Gormley to give Bowdoin a 1-0 lead.  A little over two minutes later, Ingrid Oelschlager pushed the Bowdoin lead to 2-0 on an assist from Tamlyn Frederick.

In the second half, Veiga scored her second goal of the game unassisted in the 36th minute while Lindsay McNamara rounded out the Bowdown scoring with a goal at 45:45.

For Wellesley, Emily Hewitt (Alexandria, VA) saved eight shots in goal.

The Blue will be back in action on Wednesday, September 12, against Tufts University playing a 4:00 pm home game.
