Wellesley College Field Hockey Wins Third Straight

SOUTH HADLEY, MA -- One day two of the Seven Sisters Field Hockey Classic, Wellesley College breezed to an 8-0 win over Elms. The Blue were paced by sophomore forward Callie Lekas (Brewster, MA), who recorded four goals.

Wellesley exploded out of the gate, scoring five times in the first 12:17. Lekas found the cage just 1:25 into the match to get things going. First year forward Madeline Block (Saratoga, CA) put the Blue in front 2-0 in the sixth minute, and classmate Kathryn Frett (Hallowell, MA) tallied two minutes later to make the score 3-0. Following a Lekas goal in the tenth minute, sophomore forward Catherine Marchetta (Princeton, NJ) put the finishing touches on the rally in the 13th minute.

The Blue iced things with three more goals in the second stanza. Lekas was responsible for the first two, while Block tipped in the final off of an assist from sophomore midfielder Dana Trail (Trappe, PA).

Wellesley junior goalkeeper Emily Hewitt (Alexandria, VA) collected her second shutout of the weekend.

The Blue (3-1) will all be in action again on Wednesday, traveling to Gordon College for a match beginning at 6:00 p.m.
