Wellesley Falls to Springfield, 2-0

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (October 20, 2007) – Eileen Jenkins (Gorham, Maine) tallied the game-winning tally with 10:29 remaining the first half as the Springfield College field hockey team topped Wellesley, 2-0, in a key New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday morning at Stagg Field.

The Pride improve to 14-3, 6-2 in league play while the Blue lost for the first time in conference play and now stand at 11-4, 6-1.

Jenkins netted the eventual game-winner as she finished a scramble in front of the cage with 10:29. Junior Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) was credited with the first of her two assists in the match.

The Pride added an insurance goal with 2:56 remaining as Kelleher slipped the ball past a charging Wellesley keeper Emily Hewitt to Becca Gamble (Granby, Conn.). Gamble slammed home the game’s second tally as she was all alone on the doorstep to put the Pride up 2-0.

Emma Kaplan (Ridgefield, Conn.) recorded the shutout in the match as she made eight saves for Springfield. Her counterpart Hewitt made 11 saves for the Blue.
