Wellesley Field Hockey Downs WPI in Overtime

Box Score

WELLESLEY, MA – Katie Frett (Hallowell, ME) scored the game-winning goal in overtime as the Wellesley College field hockey team defeated WPI in a Saturday morning New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match in Wellesley.

Frett needed just one-minute and 48 seconds into the overtime to notch her fifth goal of the season and secure the Wellesley win.

Wellesley controlled much of the regulation period but was not able to score despite out shooting the Engineers 24 – 4.  WPI goalkeeper Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) kept the Engineers in the game, coming up with seven total saves.

Wellesley keeper Emily Hewitt (Alexandria, VA) remained untested throughout most of the game, but stopped the only shot on goal she faced.

The loss moves WPI to 6-10 overall and 1-5 in the NEWMAC.  Up next, the Engineers will take on Smith on Tuesday at 6:00 pm.

For Wellesley, the Blue improve to 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the NEWMAC.  They will be back in action on Tuesday at home against Wheaton at 3:30 pm.
