Wellesley College Swimming & Diving Competes Against Bates and Conn

LEWISTON, Maine -- The Wellesley College swimming and diving team traveled to Bates College for a tri-meet between the host Bobcats and Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.

Wellesley was led by senior All-American diver, Kate Sorenson (Bolton, MA) and swimmers Sabrina Maisel (Los Altos, CA) and Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT).

Sorenson won both of the diving events for Wellesley. On the 1-meter board, she scored a 281.01 while in the 3-meter event, she recorded a 284.33.

On the swimming end, Maisel notched two third-place finishes for the Blue. In the 50-breast, she swam a 34.35 and then in the 100-breast, finished in a time of 1:15.14.  Mitten recorded two-top five finishes on the day, including third place in the 1000-free (11:28.38) and fifth place in the 500-free (5:33.34).

Also recording top finishes for Wellesley were Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA), Elise Spedden (Clarksville, MD), Erika Buckle (Boxborough, MA) and Stepheny Xiang (Wellesley, MA). Dutton finished fifth in the 100-free (56.80), Spedden was fifth in the 100-back (1:07.82), Buckle notched a fouth-place finish in the 100-breast (1:17.85) while Xiang was fifth in the 200-IM (2:26.26).

Rounding out the action for the Blue, the 200-yard freestyle relay team took third place in a time of 1:47.10.  The team was comprised of Whitney Smith (Detroit, MI), Katie Guynn (Salem, VA), Mitten and Dutton.

Up next for Wellesley, Blue swimming and diving is off until the 2009 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships.  MIT hosts the three-day event beginning on February 21st.
