Wellesley College Swimming & Diving Falls to MIT

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Visting MIT handed the Wellesley College swimming and diving team a 202-96 loss on Wednesday evening at Chandler Pool in Wellesley. The Engineers were paced by 12 first-place finishes to move to 2-0 on the season, while the Blue fall to 1-1.

MIT was led by senior Jen Chao (Paoli, PA) who took top honors in four events while Qing Li (Shoreham, NY) and Sarah King (Waterville, ME) each notched three first-place finishes.

Chao was an individual winner in the 100-fly (1:01.04) and in the 200-fly (2:15.07).  She also picked up a victory as part of the 400 Medley Relay (4:16.93) with Li, Abby Clark (Springfield, VA) and Katie Creasey (Plymouth, MN) and won the 200 Free Relay (1:44.61) with King, Ashley Pinchinat (Highland Mills, NY) and Sydney Giblin (Williamsburg, VA).

Li was an individual winner in the 100-back in 1:04.89 and the 200-back in 2:20.16.  King picked up wins in the 200-free (1:59.61) and the 100-free (56.13).

Wellesley picked up victories from Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA), Hilary Gram (Hopkinton, MA) and Kate Sorensen (Bolton, MA).  Dutton won the 50-free in a time of 25.50 while Gram was a winner in the 400-IM (4:57.97).  Sorenson won both diving events, picking up NCAA qualifying scores for the third time in three meets this season.  She won the 1-meter event with a score of 267.10 and picked up a win on the 3-meter board with a 278.45.

Wellesley returns to action on Friday hosting a 7:00pm dual meet against Simmons College.  MIT returns to the pool on Saturday, hosting Babson and Bowdoin at 1:00pm.
