WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Wellesley College swimming and diving team used eleven first-place finishes to outlast Plymouth State University, 166-114 on Saturday at Chandler Pool in Wellesley.
It was the first dual meet of the season for both teams.
Junior Hilary Gram (Hopkinton, MA) won four events to lead the Blue. She opened the meet taking the top spot in the 200 Medley Relay alongside Stephanie Welch (Dedham, MA), Erika Buckle (Boxborough, MA) and Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA). Gram later placed first in the 200-Fly (2:20.22), the 200-Breast (2:42.66) and the 200-IM (2:23.35).
Other individual winners for Wellesley were Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT), Dutton, Allie Williams (River Forest, IL), Sabrina Maisel (Los Altos, CA), Stepheny Xiang (Wellesley, MA) and Welch. Mitten won the 1,000-Free in a time of 11:53.43 while Dutton picked up a win in the 200-Free in 2:04.05. Williams placed first in the 100-Back in a time of 1:05.42 and Maisel won the 100-Breast in 1:14.17. Rounding out the top finishes for Wellesley, Xiang won the 200-Back in 2:24.28 and Welch took the 500-free in a time of 5:41.97.
Also for Wellesley, senior diver Kate Sorensen (Bolton, MA) hit NCAA qualifying scores in both diving events. She scored a 274.10 in the 1-meter board and set a new Wellesley pool record with a 291.45 on the 3-meter board.
PSU was led by first-years Nicole Brodeur (Claremont, NH) and Nora Regan (West Hartford, CT) who each won two events for the Panthers. Brodeur won the 100-Free in a time of 57.37 and also picked up a victory in the 100-Fly in 1:05.96. Regan swept both diving events with a score of 164.90 in the 1-meter and 133.90 in the 3-meter board.
Plymouth State also won the 400-Free Relay with the team of Elise Innis (Harpswell, ME), Chaz Sweeney (Methuen, MA), Kaitlyn Milligan (Forestdale, MA) and Brittney Gondek (South Glastonbury, CT) finishing the race in 4:05.64.
Wellesley returns to the pool on Wednesday hosting a 7:00pm dual meet against conference-rival MIT. Plymouth State is back in action on Saturday, November 22, hosting Regis for a 1:00pm dual meet.
