Sorenson Sets School Records as Wellesley Swimming & Diving Hosts Tri-Meet

WELLESLEY, MA - Wellesley College swimming and diving hosted a tri-meet on Tuesday evening against NEWMAC opponents Babson and Coast Guard. Coast Guard went 3-0 at the coed meet, while Wellesley picked up a win against cross-town rival Babson.
Highlighting the evening for the Blue, diver Kate Sorenson (Bolton, MA) broke her own school record on the 3-meter board, surpassing her previous best of 291.45. The senior posted a 298.87 to win the event by more than 110 points. Sorenson also won the 1-meter board with a score of 280.49.
Other top finishers for Wellesley were Stepheny Xiang (Wellesley, MA), Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT), Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA) and Alex Cahill (Hopkinton, MA). Xiang took second in both the 100 back (1:05.64) and the 200 back (2:21.17) while also notching a third place finish in the 200 IM in a time of 2:25.81.
Mitten recorded two second place finishes on the night, swimming the 500 free in a time of 5:31.59 and recording a 11:25.21 in the 1000 free. Dutton took second in the 100 free in a time of 57.10 while also taking third in the 200 free in 2:03.69. Rounding out the top-three finishes on the night, Cahill took third place in the 200 fly in a time of 2:29.85.
The Blue will return to the pool on Saturday at 1:00pm when Wellesley travels to Smith College.
