Wellesley Swimming & Diving Takes Third at Wheaton Winter Invite

NORTON, Mass. – Highlighted by first-place finishes from Dana Dutton (Anacortes, WA) and Kate Sorenson (Bolton, MA), the Wellesley College swimming and diving team took third place at the Wheaton Winter Invitational on Saturday at Balfour Natatorium.
The Blue notched five top-five finishes at the event to take third place with 270 points. Wellesley finished behind NEWMAC competition Wheaton (547.5) and
Clark (380.5) and ahead of Seven Sisters rivals Vassar (203) and Smith (158) as well as Roger Williams (112).
On the swimming end, Dutton took first place in the 50-free in a time of 25.80. The sophomore also took fifth place in the 100-free in 58.22 and was a part of the 800-relay team that took fifth in a time of 4:57.66. Other relay team members were junior Laura Weir (Narberth, PA), first-year Olivia Hulme (Alma, MI) and junior Emilie Mitten (Norwalk, CT).
Mitten also notched an individual fifth-place finish, swimming a 5:38.43 in the 500-free. Rounding out the swimming action, sophomore Alex Cahill (Hopkinton, MA) placed fifth in the 200-fly in a time of 2:30.48.
In the diving events, Sorenson cruised to victory on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. In the 1-meter event, the senior posted a 263.40 to take first place, more than 46 points ahead of her nearest competition. On the 3-meter board, Sorenson bested her nearest competitor by nearly 80 points, winning the event with a score of 280.10.
Wellesley will return to action at Chandler Pool hosting Babson and Coast Guard on Tuesday at 5:00pm.
