Wellesley Tennis Sweeps Brandeis University
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Wellesley College tennis team picked up a 9-0 win at Brandeis University on Thursday afternoon. The Blue, ranked 14th-nationally in Division III, move to 18-3 on the season while the Judges' fall to 8-6.
Wellesley swept the doubles matches with an 8-4 win from
Jenna Mezin (Haiku, HI) and Hali Walther (Navarre, Fla.) at number one while Trish Devine (Westport, MA) and Jen Schwarzkopf (Hinsdale, IL) were victorious, 8-2 at number two. At third doubles, Meghan Stubblebine (Cumming, GA) and Mohona Siddique (Chevy Chase, MD) combined for an 8-3 victory.
The Blue went 6-0 at singles to seal the 9-0 match sweep. At number one, Mezin was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Rachel Rosman while Schwarzkopf was an 6-1, 6-3 winner in the second spot. At third singles, Stubblebine picked up a hard fought victory over Gabrielle Helfgott in three sets.
Devine cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ariana Sanai at the fourth position while Shivani Saxena (Milan, Italy) was a 7-5, 2-6, 10-6 winner in the fifth flight. Rounding out the action for Wellesley,
Jane Booth-Tobin (Minneapolis, MN) was a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 winner at six singles.
The Blue return to action at home on Friday, April 18 with a 2:30pm match against Tufts University.
