Wellesley Tennis Sweeps Hamilton College
WELLESLEY, MA – The Wellesley College tennis team swept Hamilton College (N.Y.) in the first round of the round-robin Wellesley Invitational this evening.
Wellesley took a 3-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches and then swept the six singles matches as well to earn the 9-0 victory.
Leading the way for the Blue was Jenna Mezin (Haiku, HI), who teamed up with Hali Walther (Navarre, Fla.) for an 8-1 win in #1 doubles before defeating Kara Powers (Manchester, Mass.) 6-3, 6-2 in #1 singles. Wellesley also received strong performances from Shivani Saxena (Milan, Italy), who swept Laura Brantley (Chattanooga, Tenn.) 6-3, 6-0 in #3 singles, and Jacqueline Shen (Calgary, Alberta), who defeated Mami Powers (Manchester, Mass.) 6-1, 6-0 in #4 singles.
The Blue return to action tomorrow, with a 10:00 a.m. match against Connecticut College and a 2:30 p.m. match versus Middlebury.
