Wellesley Tennis Downs MIT
WELLESLEY, MA – The Wellesley College tennis team won their 34th straight New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match with a 6-3 victory over MIT on Saturday afternoon in Wellesley.
MIT took a 2-1 lead after doubles play when the teams of Leslie Hansen/Mariah Hoover and Liz Denys/Anisa McCree were winners at number one and number two respectively. Wellesley got on the board at number three doubles when Meghan Stubblebine (Bridgeville, PA) and Mohona Siddique (Chevy Chase, MD) paired up for an 8-3 win.
In singles play, MIT got a point at number one where Hansen was again a winner. However, the Blue took flights two through six to earn the 6-3 team victory.
The Engineers suffered their second loss of the season to set their overall record to 7-2 while they move to 6-1 in NEWMAC play. Up next, MIT will compete in the NEWITT Tournament beginning on October 19th.
Wellesley moves to 8-1 on the season and remains perfect in the NEWMAC with a 7-0 record. The Blue will also travel to Amherst on October 19th to play in the NEWITT Tournament.
