Mezin, Walther Wrap Up Play at NCAA Tennis Tournament
Wellesley, Mass. – Wellesley College senior tennis players Jenna Mezin (Haiku, HI) and Hali Walther (Navarre, Fla.) wrapped up their careers at the 2008 NCAA Tennis Championships. At the Brown Tennis Complex in St. Peter, Minnesota, Mezin won her first singles match of the day before falling in the round of 16 while Walther and Mezin fell as a doubles team in the round of 16.
In singles action, Mezin opened up the tournament with a convincing 6-0, 6-3 win against Trinity's Alicia Hunt to advance to the round of 16. Mezin then faced the fourth-seed in the tournament, Brittany Berckes of Amherst, where she lost a tough 6-2, 7-5 match.
In doubles, Mezin and Walther faced Carnegie Mellon's Jennifer Chu and Amy Staloch. The Wellesley pair dropped the first set 4-6 but took the second 6-3. In the deciding set, the Blue fell 2-6.
Mezin and Walther both wrap up successful careers at Wellesley, qualifying for all four NCAA Championships as a doubles team while Mezin was a four-year singles qualifier as well.
