Wellesley, Vassar 2-0 on Day One of the Seven Sisters Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College and Vassar College each went 2-0 to open the 2008 Seven Sisters Tennis Championships. Smith College sits in third place with a record of 1-1, while Mount Holyoke College and Bryn Mawr College have each gone 0-2.
With 5-0 wins in each of their matches, the Blue and the Brewers each have 10 points on the day. Smith has four total points while Bryn Mawr has one.
Wellesley opened play with a 5-0 win over Bryn Mawr, dropping only one game the entire match. Vassar matched their 5-0 win with a sweep over Mount Holyoke in the day's second match.
Smith and Bryn Mawr played a marathon match which Smith took 4-1. Closing the day's action, Wellesley swept Mount Holyoke 5-0 while Vassar got a 5-0 over Smith.
Individually, the Wellesley number one doubles team of Jenna Mezin and Hali Walther and the Vassar number one pair of Elysa Kliman and Krista Romita have each posted two wins to sit atop the flight. At second doubles, Wellesley's Shivani Saxena and Vassar's Courtney Burks and Jamison Steele are tied at 2-0.
In singles, Jen Schwarzkopf of Wellesley and Vassar's Nicole Pontee each went 2-0 at the top singles flight. At number two, Wellesley's Meghan Stubblebine and Vassar's Kelly Barnett have identical 2-0 records. Rounding out the individual points, Wellesley's Trish Devine and Vassar's Alexis Jacobson each sport 2-0 marks.
The 2008 Seven Sisters Championships wrap up tomorrow with the first match beginning at 9:00am.
