~Afghan Scholar to Speak on Current Events in Afghanistan~

WELLESLEY, Mass. - Dr. Ashraf Ghani, an adjunct professor of anthropology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore who also works at the World Bank, will speak about current and developing events in Afghanistan. His lecture will take place Tuesday, October 9, at 8:15 pm in the atrium of Pendleton East Hall on the Wellesley College campus.

Dr. Ghani's interests primarily have been in political and economic anthropology with a particular focus on the role of long distance in the historical development of Central Asia and Afghanistan. A native of Afghanistan, Dr. Ghani lectured at Wellesley College nearly 20 years ago in the wake of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He returns now to discuss the current crisis. Dr. Ghani received his Ph.D. from Columbia University and studied under Professors Joan Vincent and Eric Wolf.
