Wellesley College considers environmental sustainability to be an important component of its core mission. As part of this commitment, the college will consider sustainability as a factor in all institutional decisions. Members of the Wellesley community have individual and collective responsibility for environmental stewardship.
Wellesley College approaches sustainability in a holistic and inclusive way to engage the participation of the college community at large. It is hoped that this approach will not only make our campus more sustainable but values will be instilled in our community members which will be a catalyst well beyond our college borders for positive change. The establishment of these four aspirational goals has provided a paramount framework for bringing greater coherence and coordination to the various initiatives that are pursued by departments and organizations on campus. The Office of Sustainability and a Sustainability Committee, which has recently been approved by the Academic Council, will propose a new set of aspirational goals by the end of this year, 2013, to work towards as we evolve as a more environmentally focused campus.
