Landscaping
Our goal is to utilize cutting-edge techniques in our landscape,
promote our efforts actively, and generate national interest as a model institution.
Highlights:
- Removal of 5.7 acres of asphalt/paved surfaces
- Improved stormwater management to ensure run off into the Charles
River watershed is clean.
- Renovation and remediation of Paint Shop Pond which was the site of
a paint and pigment factory in the late 1800s to the early 1900s
before the college purchased the property.
- Restoration of 8 acres of wetlands
- Significant reduction of pesticides by a well implemented IPM.
- Landscape approach that maintains open space for recreation but
emphasizes meadows and woodlands with native plants as envisioned by
Frederick Law Olmstead Jr.
- Removed 530 automobiles from the campus; emphasize pedestrian use.
- #14 most beautiful campus as rated by Forbes magazine in 2010.
