Water Conservation

Building on past success, our goal is to reduce water consumption an additional 25% by 2013 (for a total reduction of 50% between 1999 and 2013).

Keohane Bottle Ban

The Sports Center committed to not purchasing bottled water and with our Office initiated the installation of chilled filtered water stations in the building. We hope that this encourages other departments to make this sustainable commitment and reduce the College’s dependency on bottled water.

Irrigation

The majority of irrigation on main campus utilizes water from Lake Waban and not from our potable supply. While irrigation does use water the water is being used in the same general area it is drawn from and the water not taken up by plants or lost through evaporation is returned to this system. The Nehoiden Golf Course is now irrigating with water drawn from a well installed on the golf course property in 2012.

Water Bottles for First-Years

The Office of Sustainability provides funds for reusable water bottles for the incoming first year class every year. This encourages students to decrease vending machine and bulk water bottle purchasing. We hope to see every student toting around an Office of Sustainability reusable bottle for many years to come!
