A group of donors who believe in the power of a Wellesley College education have pledged to give an additional $500,000 to the College if Wellesley can achieve 54% alumnae participation this year.

For every 5% increase in participation between May 19 and June 30, the challengers will give $100,000 to Wellesley. If we reach 54%, you’ll have helped Wellesley get a total of $500,000 for students and programs.

And remember: any size gift counts. It’s about how many of us give, not how much we give.

A chance for alumnae to come together to give back to Wellesley and have a big impact on the future of the College. We Are Wellesley is a fiscal year-end participation drive, challenging 54 percent of alumnae to make a gift to Wellesley this year by June 30.

A group of generous donors have committed to giving $100,000 to Wellesley for every five-point increase in alumnae participation between May 19 and June 30—up to $500,000. In other words, every gift made during this six-week period has an even bigger impact at Wellesley!

All Wellesley alumnae, including Davis Scholars, can participate.

A group of Wellesley supporters who believe in the power of a Wellesley education—and in the essential role that alumnae participation plays in upholding Wellesley's leadership position in women's education. To encourage pursuit of our ambitious goal to increase participation to 54%, these anonymous donors pledged to make additional gifts to the College this year, up to a total of $500,000. These challenge funds will be used to match increases in participation between May 19 and June 30.

Every alumnae gift, regardless of size, helps increase Wellesley’s alumnae participation rate. A higher participation rate means better rankings, stronger financial ratings, greater appeal to prospective students, and adds value to every Wellesley College degree.

Need more specific reasons? Here are just a few:

  • National rankings: Influential college rankings such as such as U.S. News & World Report factor in alumnae participation when they assemble annual “who’s best” lists. Every gift, regardless of size, counts toward alumnae participation.
  • Quality student and faculty: Alumnae participation sends a strong message to prospective students and faculty that Wellesley has a vibrant and committed alumnae network. To attract the very best, we need to be the very best!
  • The price of excellence: Tuition covers only a portion of the cost to educate a Wellesley student. Your gift joins with others to provide each student with the second-to-none Wellesley experience, every year.
  • Financial aid: More than 20 percent of Wellesley’s operating budget is returned directly to students in the form of financial aid. Your gift supports the College’s most precious resource: our students.
  • The competition: A handful of small, liberal arts colleges regularly record alumni participation rates above 50 percent. As the premier liberal arts college for women, we should lead the way!

Any type of gift made between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015 of at least $1 counts—cash, check (must be postmarked on or before June 30), credit card, text, pledge payment, restricted, and unrestricted.

Every alumna who makes a gift to Wellesley this fiscal year (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015) will be counted toward the participation rate and challenge goals.

Gifts go where donors decide they go. You may designate your gift to support Wellesley’s greatest needs (unrestricted), student scholarships, or a specific area of your choice. Just click “Give Now” at the top of this page and choose where you’d like your gift to go.

Yes, but pledges will not be counted toward the goal until a payment has been made. If you already have an existing pledge and make a payment on it before June 30, 2015, your participation will be counted.
