Ice Hockey Team- BIG WIN!!

On Feb 12th, the Wellesley Ice Hockey Team played against Mount Holyoke at their rink hoping to reverse their 6-1 loss to them back in November. It was the first win that Wellesley Club Hockey has had in nearly a decade, so it was a very special moment for the team. The final score was 6-2. Every single person contributed to the victory, especially Lisa Ventura '14, who had a hat trick, along with goals from Marisa Mahlenkamp '14, Julia Zaskorski '14, and Jen Hsu '13. Coaches Rob Kapinos and Kevin Sullivan have been very supportive and dedicated to the team, saying that the win really represented all the hard work the players have put into practices over the last few months. They've finally met their goal of winning a game, and now, they’re hoping to continue improving and gaining more experience by playing other teams for the rest of the season.

Equestrian Team

On November 6th, 2011 Wellesley Equestrian team traveled to River Wind Farm to compete in Mount Ida College's fall show. The show started out rough for the Wellesley team, but improved as the day went on! Overall we finished fourth out of 10 teams competing at Mount Ida. Special congrats to Shira Bleicher '14 who not only won her Advanced Walk Trot Canter class, but also pointed up into the Novice Division and will now be able to to compete in Novice Fences and Novice Flat. Congrats also to Rachel Insoft '13 who placed second in her Novice Fences class, as it was her last show before studying abroad. Alex Curatolo '12 also placed second in her Novice Flat class. It was a good way to round out the fall season. We will be spending the rest of the semester training to stay in shape for the spring semester and also start planning our home horse show. Ultimate Frisbee

On October 22nd, 2011 the Wellesley Whiptails woke up at the crack of dawn to travel to Williams College and play in the annual "Purple Valley" Tournament, named after the scenic purple hills which surround Williams College.  Wellesley brought a mix of new and returning player to the tournament with the primary goal of giving new players more experience in real games.  The Whiptails did very well in their first game against University of Massachusetts, winning 15-7.  Later, Wellesley did much better than expected against Williams, which has traditionally had a much stronger team, though they ended up losing 7-15.  In the final game, the Whiptails stayed neck-and-neck with Harvard until halftime, when Harvard scored several points in a row, defeating Wellesley 9-15.  Despite the losses, the weekend was an overall success with the new players surprising the vets with their ever increasing skill and enthusiasm.
