Google Apps for Education

The Academic Committee on Library & Technology Policy has decided the college will move to Google Apps for Education for email and calendaring. LTS will work with academic and administrative departments, committees, and groups to to tailor a plan and timeline for migrating to the new tools. Visit the Google Apps Blog. Questions? Most students, faculty, and many staff are not on campus during the summer, but you don't have to be in order to have your email successfully moved from FirstClass to Gmail. All of the email in your mailbox, including messages in folders, will be moved to Gmail automatically. Read more about this process.
Some Quick Facts
- Your email address will not change.
- You do not need to know if the person you're sending email to is using FirstClass or Google -- email will be routed to the correct tool.
- You will still be able to use FirstClass conferences after your email is in Gmail.
- Content remaining in FirstClass conferences can be deleted, archived, or moved for six months (~June 2012) after we've all moved to Gmail.
- There will be info sessions and later, hands-on workshops held twice a week during the summer and Fall; additional sessions can be scheduled on request.
- In addition, Google has extensive documentation and many online tutorials to help you learn to use Gmail.
- The Help Desk and LTS staff will be ready to support users during migration and with using the new tools, during the summer, Fall, and beyond.
- For MeetingMaker users, a date will be chosen after we're using Gmail, and MeetingMaker activities will be automatically moved into Google calendar (in Fall 2011).
- Student org websites are moving to Sakai.
- Fall 2011 courses will be taught using Sakai -- course sites and training are available.
