WELLESLEY NAMES BILL McINERNEY JR. INTERIM HEAD GOLF COACH
WELLESLEY, Mass. – Louise O’Neal,
Director of Athletics at Wellesley College, has announced that Bill
McInerney Jr. has been named Interim Head Golf Coach effective immediately.
McInerney becomes just the second head coach in Wellesley Golf History,
replacing former head coach Kimberly Lapointe.
Upon making her announcement O’Neal commented, “We are
pleased to have a coach of Bill’s caliber join our intercollegiate
program. Bill’s excellent achievement as a professional
golfer and instructor will ensure the golf team’s continued
success and serve us well in continuing the level of excellence
in the intercollegiate programs at Wellesley.”
McInerney has been a professional golf instructor since 1994 and
is the founder of McGolf Learning Center. Active in the golfing
community, McInerney has served as the Director of Golf for the
Massachusetts Special Olympics and was instrumental in starting
the Belmont Sports Program Golf Team for athletes with mental retardation
or closely-related developmental disabilities. In 2000, McInerney
was the Head Instructor at the Boston Globe Women’s Golf Clinics,
which invited up to 100 women per clinic.
McInerney graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor
of Science Degree in Graphic Design and Visual Communication. He
played his collegiate golf at Lynn University in Florida and Grand
Canyon University in Arizona, turning professional after his sophomore
year of college and playing in the Tommy Armour Tour, South Florida
Mini-Tour, Western State Mini-Tour and North Atlantic Mini-Tour.
