WELLESLEY CROSS COUNTRY EARNS TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA HONORS

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College’s Cross Country team earned Division III Cross Country Coaches Association Academic Team All-America honors for its achievements in the classroom while standout cross-country student-athlete Tracy Bassett (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) earned Division III Academic All-America honors for the second time in her career.

To be eligible for the team award, Wellesley’s cumulative GPA of all of its team members must be at least a 3.10.

Bassett has already earned numerous athletic and academic achievements as a sophomore and is a two-time All-New England, New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference and Seven Sisters All-Tournament honoree. This fall, Bassett also earned NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors in her first year of eligibility for the award.

During the 2003 season, Bassett paced Wellesley finishing as Wellesley’s top runner in five out of the six races she competed in and was named the NEWMAC Runner of the Week twice and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Week once.  Bassett also qualified for the NCAA National Championships after placing 19th in the NCAA New England Regional, completing the 6k race in a time of 23:03.

As a team Wellesley finished as NEWMAC Conference Runners-up and placed 12th out of 35 scoring teams at the NCAA New England Regional Meet.
