WELLESLEY CROSS COUNTRY EARNS TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA HONORS
WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College’s
Cross Country team earned Division III Cross Country Coaches Association
Academic Team All-America honors for its achievements in the classroom
while standout cross-country student-athlete Tracy Bassett (Rancho
Palos Verdes, Calif.) earned Division III Academic All-America honors
for the second time in her career.
To be eligible for the team award, Wellesley’s cumulative
GPA of all of its team members must be at least a 3.10.
Bassett has already earned numerous athletic and academic achievements
as a sophomore and is a two-time All-New England, New England Women’s
and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-Conference and
Seven Sisters All-Tournament honoree. This fall, Bassett also earned
NEWMAC Academic All-Conference honors in her first year of eligibility
for the award.
During the 2003 season, Bassett paced Wellesley finishing as Wellesley’s
top runner in five out of the six races she competed in and was
named the NEWMAC Runner of the Week twice and Eastern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Runner of the Week once. Bassett also
qualified for the NCAA National Championships after placing 19th
in the NCAA New England Regional, completing the 6k race in a time
of 23:03.
As a team Wellesley finished as NEWMAC Conference Runners-up and
placed 12th out of 35 scoring teams at the NCAA New England Regional
Meet.
