Swim Test A swim test sticker is required for any activity on the lake or in the pool and is granted upon successful completion of a swim test offered during recreational swimming. The test includes: - jumping into deep water fully clothed and then disrobing
- treading, floating or survival floating (5 minutes)
- swimming 20 yards
- learning the proper use of a life jacket
A student with a valid Lifeguard Training, Emergency Water Safety, or Water Safety Instructor Certificate will be exempt from the test upon presentation of the certificate. top Weight Room Orientation Use of the weight room requires an initial orientation with the weight room monitor, who is available on a daily basis. The free weight area can be used upon completion of a scheduled training session. top Boathouse Regulations For Students Using the Boathouse: - You must pass the deep water swim test administered in the pool and have a swim test sticker on your ID.
- Everyone must wear a personal floatation device at all times.
- The directions of the boat house staff and boat guards must be followed at all times.
- No alcoholic beverages are allowed in the boats.
- No swimming from the boats is allowed.
- The boats can not be taken ashore.
- No one is allowed near the inlet or outlet of the lake.
- No bobbing of the canoes is allowed.
- Any violation of these rules will cause the immediate suspension of all boating privileges.
Rules For Guests of the Boathouse: - Present current LGT or WSI card OR
- Equivilent swim test sticker from other school/association OR
- Demonstrate required swimming skills by passing swim test. This test is given in the lake only when weather and water temperature permitting.
Sailing Ratings: - Light Wind Rating required to use a sail boat during recreational hours in light winds. Test: Written test on terminology; demonstration of knowledge of basic knots, rigging a boat, sailing a short course and landing boat satisfactorily. A crew is optional.
- Heavy Wind Rating Required to sail a boat during recreational hours in a wind over 10 knots. Test: Some dinghy racing experience on or off campus required. Demonstration of ability to handle Tech dinghy in winds over 10 knots.
top Equipment Check-out A variety of sports equipment may be checked out from the front desk. (x.2019) Cross-Country Ski Check-Out Policy: Weather permitting in January and February cross-country ski equipment will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis to students, faculty and staff (members of the College Community). - Fee: $1.00 per day

- Procedures
- Students will be required to leave their ID card or a $50.00 check as a security deposit. (Note: $100.00 check for weekend security deposit required of everyone.)
- Faculty and Staff will be required to leave a $100.00 check as a deposit.
- ID cards and checks will be returned upon the safe and timely return of the equipment.
- Instructional clinics have priority use of equipment when offered.
- Wellesley College is not responsible for injury and/or damage caused by the use of this equipment. All students, faculty, and staff must sign a waiver to this effect upon checking out equipment
