Wellesley Basketball Falls to Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. -- Babson College seniors Caitlin Boulier (Wolcott, Conn.), Caitlin Fenn (Niantic, Conn.), and Nicole McManus (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) combined for 47 points, 17 rebounds, and nine steals as the Beavers avenged their recent loss to Wellesley College by defeating the Blue, 65-49, in a NEWMAC women's basketball contest at Staake Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Babson upped its record to 9-10 overall and 4-3 in the conference, while Wellesley dipped to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in league play.
Babson never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to back-to-back jumpers by McManus. The Beavers built a 16-6 lead with 12:33 remaining in the first half and would go up by as many as 11 in the stanza before heading into the break with a 33-24 advantage.
The Beavers put the game away in the first seven minutes of the second half, using a 17-4 run during that span to build a 50-29 lead. The Blue would get no closer than 14 the rest of the way as Babson held on for the 65-49 conference victory.
Boulier hit four three pointers on her way to a team-high 18 points, while Fenn added 15 points, five rebounds, and five steals. McManus also had a monster game for the Beavers, finishing with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go along with nine boards, three assists, three blocked shots, and four steals.
Wellesley was paced by junior Jessica Duff (Milton, Abington, UK), who finished with 18 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Katie Martore (Great Falls, Va.) finished a solid all-around game with eight points, eight boards, six assists, and three steals, while juniors Courtney Richter (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and Julier Thomas (Concord, Calif.) also added eight points apiece.
