Wellesley Crew Rows Against Wesleyan, Bates, Tufts
MALDEN, Mass. – The Wellesley College crew team had an excellent day on the water, competing on Saturday morning against boats from Wesleyan, Bates and Tufts. Although racing in shifted line-ups, each of the Blue's boats recorded wins on the day, with the novice boat notching their first victory of the season.
In first varsity competition, Wellesley picked up an eight second win over Tufts University. The Blue recorded a time of 7:32.58 to Tuft's 7:40.40, making up over 18 seconds compared to Wellesley's last race against the Jumbos, just two weeks ago. The varsity eight also competed against the second-ranked Bates boat, placing just behind them with a 7:32.43. Both of the Blue varsity eight times on the day were faster than the sixth-ranked Wesleyan varsity eight.
The Wellesley second varsity boat also had a strong showing. The Blue defeated Wesleyan by 15 seconds in their first race of the day, rowing a 7:32.58 to Wesleyan's 7:56.08. In their next race, the Blue beat their first time by one second, but fell to Tufts.
Once again, the Wellesley third varsity boat dominated their race. The Blue defeated Wesleyan, 7:58.67 to 8:53.25.
Wrapping up the day of racing, the Wellesley novice boat broke through with their first win of the season. The Blue recorded a time of 8:32.75, beating Wesleyan's 9:04.19 handily.
Wellesley Crew is back on the water on Saturday, April 18th participating in the 2009 NEWMAC Championships. Races will be held on Lake Quinsigamond once again, with the first race starting at 8:40am.
