Second and Third Varsity Sweep at Malden Spirit Regatta
MALDEN, Mass. – The Wellesley College second varsity and third varsity boats completed a sweep of Tufts, Simmons and Smith on Saturday morning at the 2009 Malden Spirit Regatta held on the Malden River.
Wellesley's second varsity boat started the day with a victory over Smith to advance to the finals. In the Grand Final, the Blue notched a 6:51.56 to 6:55.87 win over Tufts University to claim first place on the day.
In third varsity action, Wellesley opened
the day with a 6:52.54 to 7:01.34 victory over Tufts. The Blue then capped the morning with a 26-second victory over Smith to finish 2-0.
Wellesley's first varsity boat lost a tight race to Smith, 6:26.59 to 6:31.88 but rebounded later to defeat Simmons in their second race.
In the novice races, Wellesley fell to both Simmons and Smith.
Blue Crew is back on the water at the 2009 New England Championships held at Worcester's Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday, May 2nd.
