Wellesley Crew Competes at New England Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – Highlighted by a silver-medal finish from the third varsity eight boat, the Wellesley College crew team raced at the 2009 New England Championships held Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.
The Wellesley third varsity eight finished the day second overall in their event to earn a silver medal. The Blue opened the morning with a win in their heat, defeating boats from Trinity, Smith and Mount Holyoke. In the grand final, Wellesley clipped Holy Cross in the sprint to finish with a time of 7:30.613, behind only Williams College.
In second varsity action, the Blue advanced to the finals by taking third in their opening heat, defeating Smith and Simmons. In the grand final, Wellesley finished 6th overall, racing in a time of
07:32.181.
Wellesley's first varsity eight opened the day taking third place in their heat, behind nationally-ranked boats from Bates and Smith. Later in the day, the Blue took fourth in the petite final, taking 10th overall in a time of 07:20.142.
Blue Crew will compete next at the ECAC Championships on May 9th in Camden, New Jersey.
