Wellesley Crew Finishes Third at Seven Sisters
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Wellesley College crew team took third place in overall points at the Seven Sisters Championships hosted by Bryn Mawr as part of the 2008 Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. The Blue finished with 17 points, behind first place Mount Holyoke (22) and Smith (20).
The Wellesley first varsity boat finished second overall behind only Mount Holyoke. Blue Crew finished the race in a time of 15:26, just behind Mount Holyoke's 15:19 and ahead of Simmons (15:40), Smith (15:44) and Bryn Mawr (16:40).
The Blue won the second varsity race
in a time of 15:62, besting Mount Holyoke (15:55), Simmons (16:13), Smith (16:22), Mount Holyoke 3V (16:02) and the Wellesley 3V (16:56). The win marked Wellesley's first Seven Sisters race victory since the inception of the event in 1989.
In the novice races, Wellesley took fifth place in the first novice event in a time of 17:41. Wellesley's second novice boat finished fourth in the 2N race, in a time of 18:42.
Two members of the Wellesley team took home All-Seven Sisters awards. Senior starboards Allison Broadwater (South Charleston, WV) and Cori Snedecor (Portola Valley, CA) were honored after the event.
The Seven Sisters Championship Regatta concludes the fall portion of Wellesley's crew season. The Blue will return to the water in the spring.
