Blue Crew Races Strong Against Simmons, Bates, WPI, Mt. Holyoke
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wellesley College crew team competed on Worcester's Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday morning, racing boats from the #2 Bates, #11 Mount Holyoke, Simmons and WPI.
The Blue crew had a strong day on the water against nationally ranked competition. The day was highlighted by the third varsity boat taking first place in their race. Featuring boats from Mt. Holyoke and Bates, Wellesley finished the race in 7:36.1, over 17 second faster than the second place team.
In the second varsity race, the Blue took second in a time of 7:19.9, just six seconds off the pace of Bates who took first in the event. Rounding out varsity action, Wellesley's first varsity boat placed fourth in their their race, finishing in 7:05.2, ahead of WPI.
In the novice race, Wellesley placed fifth in 8:10.09.
Blue Crew is back on the water on Saturday, April 18th participating in the 2009 NEWMAC Championships. Races will be held on Lake Quinsigamond once again, with the first race starting at 8:40am.
