Wellesley Crew Races Strong at ECAC Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. - The Wellesley College crew team, ranked #10 in the nation, wrapped up a strong performance at the ECAC Championships this Sunday on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester.

In the morning heats, Wellesley's first and second varsity boats both notched third-place performances, qualifying them for the petite finals.  The 1V finished in 7:11.227, close behind two nationally ranked squads in #3 Bates (7:06.738) and #4 St. Lawrence (7:09.197).  The 2V placed third (7:01.155) in their heat, behind only #2 Ithaca (6:56.695) and Bates (6:59.660).

In the petite finals of the varsity races, Wellesley's 1V took third place, falling only to Division-I Holy Cross, and #8 William Smith, while besting Mount Holyoke, Smith and Simmons.  In the 2V petite final, the Blue took second, behind Smith.

In novice action, Wellesley's first boat qualified for the petite finals, where the Blue used a strong sprint to seal up a second place finish. Wellesley finished 1.8 seconds behind Wesleyan, while defeating Hamilton, Ithaca and Holy Cross. 

Wellesley's second novice eight rowed in the third varsity heats in the morning, qualifying for the petite final.  The Blue placed second behind Tufts.

Blue Crew will now await selections to the 2010 NCAA Rowing Championships. Teams will be announced Tuesday at 3:00pm.
