Makerney also served as the public relations representative for Golf Digest at the Masters tournament in Augusta, Georgia. Makerney was a standout member of the golf team at Division II University of Northern Colorado.  Serving as team captain, she racked up fourteen top-ten finishes and was named All-North Central Conference. She has continued to maintain a competitive level of play and enjoys playing in competitive tournaments throughout the year.
