Wellesley College Spring Athletic Teams Open Play

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Wellesley College spring teams are gearing up for spring training trips.  The Blue will sen

LACROSSE

Season Preview: Wellesley completed the 2009 season with a record of 9-8 on the year and the fourth seed in the NEWMAC tournament.  The Blue ended their season in the quarterfinals with a tough 21-7 loss to Babson.  Coach Julia McPhee was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year.  The Blue return three players who were selected to second team all-conference in senior Loretta White (Northampton, MA), junior Jenny Holland (Bethesda, MD), and senior Molly Morrow (Bow, NH).  The Blue return 10 players from last season and add six first-years.  With such a successful past and such a successful coach, Wellesley looks to make a run in the NEWMAC tournament.

Season Preview: The Blue finished the 2009 season with a 21-14-1 overall record, making them the second-seeded team in the NEWMAC conference.  Wellesley was the runner-up in the NEWMAC tournament.  Three players who received post-season honors return. Senior Megan Wood and junior Alison Davis were named to both the NEWMAC All-Conference team and the All-Region team, while senior Alex Warren was named to the All-Region team. The Blue return ten players, and add eight first-years.  Wellesley looks to make another run deep into the post-season.

Season Preview: The fall season ended with a tough 5-4 loss to Wheaton in the Finals of the NEWMAC tournament. The Blue went 6-1 in NEWMAC, and 7-3 overall.  Sophomore Marie Watanabe was named the 2009 NEWMAC Player of the Year.  Watanabe, Jaqueline Shen, Nathalie Herman, and Meghan Stubblebine were each selected for the first-team All- Conference in the NEWMAC.  With these players returning and a few new paces, Wellesley tennis looks to avenge their loss in the finals this spring. 

 

CREW

Season Preview: The Wellesley Crew team finished the 2008-2009 season as the Runner-Up at the NEWMAC Championships, as well as taking second place in both the New England Championships and the ECAC Championships.  In the fall season, Wellesley took home the Seven Sisters Championship.  The Blue look to carry out this early success into the Spring Season.
