Wellesley College Soccer Ties With Babson

WELLESLEY, Mass. –  Wellesley College goalkeeper Katie Martore (Great Falls, VA) made 10 saves as the Blue played to a scoreless tie against cross-town and New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) rival Babson College.

The tie sets Wellesley’s overall record to 5-5-2 on the season with a 1-3-1 mark in the NEWMAC while visiting Babson moves to 7-5-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the NEWMAC.

The Beavers controlled much of the first half holding a 6-1 advantage over Wellesley in shots but Martore saved two for the Blue and the game stood at 0-0 at halftime.

In the second period, Babson once again went on the offensive attack recording 11 shots to Wellesley’s four.  However, Martore picked up four of her ten saves in the period to keep the game scoreless heading into overtime.

Neither team managed a goal in the overtime periods as the game ended in a 0-0 tie.

In goal for the Beavers, Sam Scarpato (Weston, MA) remained untested in her 45 minutes of play while Kristy Benoit (Shrewsbury, MA) saved four shots in 65 minutes.

For Wellesley’s Martore, the shutout was the fifth of the season.

Up next for Babson, the Beavers will travel to New London, CT for a noon match against Coast Guard on Saturday.  Wellesley will also be in action on Saturday with a 1:00 pm match at Mount Holyoke.
