Wellesley College Soccer Falls to Clark University
WORCESTER, MASS. – A trio of Cougars led the Clark University
women’s soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Wellesley College in a New
England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game at Granger
Field on Saturday.
With the victory, Clark breaks a four game winless streak to improve to
4-4-2 (1-1 NEWMAC), while Wellesley falls to 5-3-1 (1-1 NEWMAC).
Clark managed the game early on as they placed 11 shots to Wellesley’s
two in the first half. Jess Mirkin (Wellesley, Mass.) nearly found the
net just three minutes into the game following a corner kick from
Charlotte Bowman (Peterborough, N.H.), but her header bounced off the
crossbar.
The Cougars hit the goal when Kerri Moy (Newton, Mass.) worked through
two defenders and crossed the ball to Amanda Ramos (Williston Park,
N.Y.), who drove it home at the 31:19 mark. The score marked Ramos’s
second of the year to tie the team lead.
Wellesley had a chance to tie on an open shot from Jennie Krasker
(Newton, Mass.), but her bid sailed wide of the net.
Clark would close out the half up by one.
The Cougars wasted no time extending the score in the second half as
Kristen Murrone (Middletown, Conn.) took the cross from Liz Adamcik
(Florence, Mass.) and flipped it in to put Clark up by two just seven
minutes in to the second half.
Clark earned their third goal of the game as Bowman fed the ball to
Meghan O’Rourke (Somerset, Mass.), who tapped it in for the 3-0 lead.
Wellesley spoiled Clark’s chance at a shutout when Jennifer Lau
(Honolulu, Hawaii) took the cross from Courtney Frazee (Sherborn, Mass.)
and broke the defense for a goal with just six minutes left to play.
Clark placed 22 shots on goal in the match while Wellesley managed six.
Katie Martore (Great Falls, Va.) stopped 10 shots for Wellesley as Joanna
Clark (Windham, Maine) put aside one for the Cougars.
The Cougars continue conference action Tuesday when they travel to
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (4 pm) while Wellesley visits
Worcester Polytechnic Institute the same day (4 pm).
