Wellesley Shuts Down Mount Holyoke, 3-0

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 13, 2007) – The Wellesley College women’s soccer team breezed to a 3-0 victory over New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Mount Holyoke College this afternoon at the Mount Holyoke Soccer Field. All three of the Blue’s goals came in a span of 9:48.
 
 First year forward Jennie Krasker (Newton, Mass./Newton North) got things going with her sixth tally of the season with just under five minutes remaining in the opening frame. Wellesley extended its advantage to 2-0 in the 49th minute, when senior forward Jennifer Lau (Honolulu, Hawaii, Punahou) netted her seventh goal of the year. Junior defender Deirdre Garrahan (Fairfax Station, Va./Thomas Jefferson) wrapped up the scoring less than two minutes later.
 
 The guests dominated play throughout, outshooting Mount Holyoke 33-10. Sophomore goalkeeper Katie Martone (Great Falls, Va./The Potomac School) made five saves en route to her sixth shutout of the fall for the Blue. Her counterpart, sophomore Elaine Harvey (Bolton, Mass./St. Mark’s School), turned away 15 shots in a losing effort for the Lyons.
 
Mount Holyoke (2-11, 0-6 NEWMAC) will travel to Springfield College for a league tilt at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wellesley (6-5-2, 2-3-1 NEWMAC) will also be in action again on Tuesday, when it visits MIT for a NEWMAC clash beginning at 3:30 p.m.
