Wellesley Soccer Falls to Wheaton, 3-2

Box Score

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College dropped a tough 3-2 decision to Wheaton College on Saturday at home.  The two teams played a tense, fast-paced 90 minutes as the Blue posed a serious challenge to Wheaton's conference winning streak, which now stands at 80 games.

Wheaton got on the board first when Melida Alvarez (Saugus, MA) knocked in a header at the 20:59 mark.  Wellesley evened the score minutes later with some heads-up play in the Wheaton end.  When Jen Lau (Honolulu, HI) had a shot ricochet off the Wheaton goalkeeper, Catherine Caruso (Belmont, MA) buried the rebound for her fourth goal of the season.

Wheaton regained the lead in the second half on a goal by Katelyn Brack (Lake Oswego, OR) and a second score by Alvarez.  Lau found the net for the Blue at 57:40 to push the score to 3-2, but Wellesley could not get a tying shot past Wheaton.

Elana Cockburn (Chestnut Hill, MA) and Stacey Kronenberg (Belchertown, MA) split time in goal for the Lyons; Cockburn made two saves and Kronenberg one.  Wellesley goalkeeper Katie Martore (Great Falls, VA) posted 10 saves for the Blue.

Wellesley returns to action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. home match against Babson.
