Visting Babson Tops Wellesley Soccer, 3-0

WELLESLEY, Mass. – Jackie Graham (Winchester, MA) recorded a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Babson soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Wellesley in a key Tuesday afternoon New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match-up. The win improves Babson to 9-3-5 (4-0-3 NEWMAC) while the Blue fall to 8-3-2 with a 6-1 mark in the conference.
After over 42 minutes of scoreless soccer, Graham got Babson on the board with an unassisted goal in the 43rd minute. The senior scored after Wellesley keeper Katie Martore (Great Falls, VA) was pulled out of the net to save a shot from Patty Pytlik (Wellesley, MA). The rebound bounced to Graham and she booted it in for her ninth goal of the season.
Babson increased it's lead early in the second half when Ellen McCurdy (Weston, MA) scored her first goal of the season off of a Kirsten Schmid (Babylon, NY) assist. Schmid picked up a feed from a Sam Bartman (Upton, MA) corner kick and passed it to McCurdy who knocked it home for a 2-0 Babson lead.
The Beavers added an insurance goal in the 61st minute when Pytlik scored off an an assist from Graham to set the final score to 3-0.
Babson outshot Wellesley 20-7 for the game, with the Blue only managing one shot on goal the entire contest.
In net for the Blue, Martore picked up eight saves while Babson's Sarah Macary (Woodbury, CT) stopped the only Wellesley shot on goal.
Babson is next in action on Saturday hosting Coast Guard in a 3:00pm conference game. Wellesley also plays on Saturday, traveling to Clark for a 1:00pm NEWMAC contest.
